While Idaho does not have a large variety of reputable Dachshund breeders, there are four that we feel would be your best choice if you are not willing to travel to a surrounding state or have a pet nanny bring a Dachshund puppy to you from a reputable breeder in another state. Having been a breeder for over 26 years, I have placed puppies with families in 49 states as well as Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, and Europe.
There are six states that share a border with Idaho and if you happen to be close enough to drive into one of these states, you just may find a responsible doxie breeder for your next companion if any of the ones on this list do not have puppies or have a very long waitlist. Check out reputable Dachshund breeders in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada.
Find out how we chose these Dachshund breeders in Idaho before you begin your search for your new companion. Each listing found here will tell you:
- Location
- What comes with the puppy
- What is good about the breeder
- Breeder’s phone number, website, and social media
Remember to do your own research when you are searching for a new Dachshund to add to your family. Each breeder has their own breeding philosophy and way of raising their puppies. 3. Idaho Dachshunds
Idaho Dachshunds is a small breeder located in Idaho Falls. Their first successful breeding was in 2002 and they have had a love affair with this tenacious breed ever since. They specialize in miniature smooth hair and long hair puppies in a variety of colors.
Puppies can start going to their new homes at 8 weeks of age and will have age-appropriate vaccinations and de-wormings. A health record does accompany each puppy to its new home so their new veterinarian knows what the pups have had and when they are due for their next vaccinations and fecal exams. Puppies are socialized from birth and adjust well to their new homes.
If you have a female Dachshund that is worthy of being bred and you have full registration rights on her plus have done appropriate testing, Idaho Dachshunds does offer select males for stud service. Only serious breeders or those willing to put the time and effort into properly breeding should do so, those who just want their female to have a litter “for the experience” should leave dog breeding to the professionals.

Final Thoughts
It might be frustrating trying to find a Dachshund puppy from a reputable breeder in Idaho. With so few breeders in this state, you will want to get on a waiting list or two and be patient as it might take a few months or even a year before a breeder has a puppy for you.
If you are willing, you can travel to other states to get a Dachshund puppy from a responsible breeder when you are unable to locate an available puppy in Idaho. You can also check out the various shelters and rescues in the state if you would like to adopt a rescue and not raise a puppy. Some people are fully able to commit to a rescue doxie while others would much prefer to find a reputable breeder with a puppy that has had the best possible start in life.
